I'm looking to get a brainstorming group together to come up with some ideas for this project. I'm sure we've all heard of FUBU - For Us By Us. If this is meant to be an online community, then I'd really like to see it designed and developed by that community. With that in mind, I'm trying to organize a meetup (a FreeUp?) in which we can talk about ideas and features to include on the site.



GENERAL INFO

After seeing all the freelancers gather together at a session at BarCampCharlotte recently, it became quite obvious that there needs to be an online resource for us all. I realize that there are plenty of freelance focused websites, but I would like this one to be a little different. I'd like it to initially focus on Charlotte and it's surrounding areas.

Here are some goals that I have for this website and what I would really like it to become.

1. An Online Resource - As we all know, it is not easy to keep up to date with all the latest trends, tips, and info that seems to change each week. While I would hope that these tips are original and I am looking to other freelancers to contribute whatever they can. At the same time, I understand that there's no sense in reinventing the wheel. Therefore I think we could provide links to outside sources as well.

2. A Freelance Directory - A great way to get your name out there is to have a directory of freelancers for area businesses to access. (I've already been asked by one major firm in town to do this - they must have read my tweet) I'm guessing that it would include a brief bio, headshot, and link to your online portfolio. This would also help within our own community as we start to know one another and collaborate.

3. Freelance Meetups - A calendar section would allow us to review event information and plan accordingly.
